This Black Five is really 45337 which managed to make the Gala a day late after its recent overhaul. It was put on the freight rather than the rostered passenger service just in case of teething troubles (probably!). It was "weathered" with a bit of creative paintwork and carried the number 45292 which was a Five retired from service whilst working out of Birkenhead shed. The number was plated and painted but the shed number, 8H, was chalked on! It was due to masquerade as 44860 on Sunday which was a Black Five on a good-bye to GWR excursion from Brum to Birkenhead back in 1967.
