Despite last year's rumours of its impending withdrawal and cannibalisation Earl Merioneth was heading the regular service train between Porthmadog and Blaenau and is seen here crossing Coed y Bleiddiau culvert. Not only is Iarll Meirionnydd (to give its port side name) still making the most of its boiler ticket its good condition has led to a rethink and it will be kept pretty much as is to allow for a quicker and easier overhaul down the line.
