On show for a few more months at Manchester's Science and Industry Museum is No. 1 Rocket. The winning locomotive at the Rainhill Trials in 1829 was George and Robert Stephenson's entry and the Stephensons were given the contract to provide locomotives for the newly opened Liverpool & Manchester Railway. The rest, as they say, is history.
