Nice to see what looks like a DEMU in blue
In 1978 it was possible to walk from Uckfield to Lewes over most of the trackbed. It meant joining the old railway a few hundred metres south of where the rails at Uckfield Station stopped.
Isfield Station was in a fairly bad way. The booking office was boarded up, but the signal box was accessible with many of the levers still in place. Barcombe Mills was in slightly better condition, but was completely boarded up. At Hamsey, the bridges over the Ouse had been demolished and we followed the river to return to the county town.
