East Lancashire Railway

City of Wells Startup

Uploader's Comments

From her home at the moment, Battle of Britain Class City of Wells makes her way in from the Bury Sheds to Bolton Street Station in Bury. The East Lancashire Railway are raising funds to buy her outright. She is a big engine, much bigger than Flying Scotsman and could possibly outpace her although this has never happened. No denying though, any driver who has driven her all agree, she really is a wonderful engine to operate. The Bulliard design is based on power, City of Wells has this in abundance. She is a messy engine though, her nickname with good reason is The Volcano. It would seem that the Cox valves are opened fully as she sets off, giving instant fog, tied in with her boiler stacks; it is an eruption. East Lancashire Railway are looking for donations to keep this amazing girl on the lines. I hope they make it..
